| I got curious about magnetism, and found this: All materials respond to a magnetic field; they just respond in different ways. Some non-magnetic substances, when placed within a magnetic field, slightly reduce the strength of that field, a phenomenon known as diamagnetism. On the other hand, there are nonmagnetic substances possessing an uneven number of electrons per atom, and in these instances a slight increase in magnetism, known as paramagnetism, occurs. Paramagnetism always has to overcome diamagnetism, however, and hence the gain in magnetic force is very small. In addition, the thermal motion of atoms and molecules prevents the objects' magnetic fields from coming into alignment with the external field. Lower temperatures, on the other hand, enhance the process of paramagnetism.I in no way want to turn Jasper into Magneto... he is not going move bridges around and start pulling iron out of people's bodies. He just utilizes magneticism as a defense and also magnetizes objects when needed. All of this still requires him to have built up a good charge to produce the field unlike Magneto who just does it at will regardless of his environment. To simplify matters I'll just say that non-magnetic metals which cannot become permanent magnets will still be diverted by a field but in vast quantities would also cancel it out. Magnetism really gets complicated. | |

| Tiph, calm down buddy, I was just trying to rib you a little. It's a fictional story, we can do whatever we like, physics don't apply | |

| Sorry, Zinsk... I've always believed in being truthful to the 'Science' in Science-Fiction, and I'm kicking myself for not knowing more about magnetism. I usually research my material much better. I TOTALLY understand that the 'Fiction' kind of trumps the 'Science' but I always try and stay as true to it as possible without 'dulling-down' the story too much. Since I chose to play an electro-magnetic style character I should at least try and have more of an understanding of his ability. Thanks for the leeway though, too much research can detract from the writing so its nice to find that nice happy median. I was very interested though in what I tracked down on magnetism and just thought I'd share it. I even found this cool article where scientists have discovered a way to magnetize just about anything, it's some new break through. I have obsessive tendencies, so just bear with me... Just imagine how my wife feels I honestly do have a sense of humour... but sometimes, well a lot of the time, my interest (or rather curiousity) in science can supersede it. I guess just to keep things in order for Jasper's character I am just going to consider that most bullets are made of a combination alloy which is magnetic unless it is specifically stated. RAID could purposely start using pure lead bullets or something along those lines. Easier to just define the reality so then there's no discrepancies. | |

| I always thought how cool it would be to incorporate an interface for this site that would allow users to manipulate a 3-D rendering of their character and manipulate it when they felt like.
Someone, me or any other 3-D artist would have to create the model, which would be imported into the interface. Then the user could modify it by simply accessing the 'modify mode' and bend and twist the character, zoom in and zoom out as they saw fit. Shadowing is easily changed by modifying the angle of the light and different backgrounds could be imported from a library or one could choose their own background which would be automatically re-sized.
You would even be able to import other pre-existing 'NPC's', like a RAID trooper if you would want to depict an action scene. The modifications of the images would be quite quick, or depending on the amount of time a person had could add more details if they so desired.
Character names and other info would just remain consistent on another layer, and when done, the person would just hit 'export' and create a 'new image' or 'overwrite previous'.
That's just an idea off the top of my head, haven't really thought about it in detail, but it would be cool for some (obviously not all) and add another dimension to the story writing. | |

| So the forum was busting at the seams, so now we have two. It seems fitting (forgive the pun) since the two stories are actually very different. While they share a common theme, the heroes of breakaway are greatly oppressed while in what is called 'New Dawn' for now, the meta-humans are starting to become popular again in society. | |

| Oh, and SubBear, you may want to a Chapter number in front of the story thread. Topics will appear in alphabetical order, so following chapters will then hold their order. | |

| No prob, I really like what your doing with The Breakaway, and I personally think it's awesome to have two forums dedicated to 'super-hero' style stories. Keep up the good work! | |

| I couldn't figure out how to move my post for Fyedka from the first Heroes to this one so I just reposted it in the character submissions here | |

| There really isn't a way to move a single post... you gotta copy them and delete the old ones. | |

| I think it will work well, Kristina is Russian as is young master Romanov (Although he has been an American for years). Besides we could connect this storyline to the mysterious Mikhail, perhaps the man that is shadowing Kristina works for this Mikhail. I was thinking that Kristina has avoided going to prison by working with federal authorities, of course she could use her powers and escape at will but she likes the thrill of the hunt, and she likes to be paid well. Also she would love to find John, Gabriel and Bug and have another shot at them (she got her hooks into John once). | |

| Sounds like fun... if you want, I could write up something for Mikhail so he can be an NPC | |

| Hey guys! Sorry about my long absence! The website though also didn't send me notices that this thread had replies so it was kind of a combination of that and just being busy >< I will definitely try to catch up and post this week. | |

| Sub-- in response to your P.S. at the end of your post: I was thinking maybe Fyedka could have seen her before in his exploits on the streets or, if you still wanted to include him, she could have ties to his brother and he could know of her from that. Like maybe Mikhail had sent her after him before or summat. Whatchoo tink? | |

| I personally think the connection to his brother would tie things in nicely. It would provide Fyedka with some awareness, but nothing too personal. It would also provide a natural bridge so that Mikhail could start making appearances. | |
