Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 TorriBanner

Torri was thankful Sionn was able to bring her back to center. The fact she was in the middle of an ancient cemetery had done more to rattle her than she thought and in turn had almost caused her to react impulsively. As things began to happen around them,

Torri could feel the tense muscles of Rhain as he moved in close and placed his shoulders to that of Torri and Sionn’s. In an effort to reassure him things weren’t as drastic as they seemed, she nudged him gently with her shoulder. When he turned quickly to glance at her, she saw the wild look in his eyes and raised her right hand and indicated a lowering signal to let him know he should calm.

”It’s alright, Rhain….focus. Look for the advantage in the adversity. It’s always there. Ye just hafta find it.”

Torri realized then just how much she sounded like Sionn and she shook her head. Returning her attention to those around her, she was impressed with Aurora’s ability to stir up the wind and keep the bulk of the leaves from falling onto the ice and obscuring their view. However, when she retrieved the bow, her spell stopped and the leaves began to fall onto the ice bubble around them again.

Torri knew they were dealing with another magic user and she knew they were familiar with the magic of nature. Taking a calming breath, Torri whispered soft words of magic and turned her right hand, palm down, towards the ground. It was more difficult than she initially thought since the oak trees were under the influence of the other magic user, but the drooping moss that was ever present in New Orleans began to grow onto the trees and cover the leaves to prevent many of the leaves from falling any more.
As Aurora came back to her senses, Torri looked back over her shoulder at Sionn and then to Rhain and nodded.

”While I’d like to stay and chit chat, I believe the time has come for us to depart this….lovely…place.”

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 SionnBanner

Sionn watched the area as Aurora cast her spell and kept the leaves from falling on the ice barrier. He didn't realize that he was smiling, he was so enamored with this woman, she was so different and exotic. He was staring at her longingly and felt the pull of his gut to posses her, to have her as his own... it was only when Torri jabbed him on the hip with her finger nail that he blinked and began to look around again, keeping watch for their adversary. AS the ghostly apparitions moved within the protective sphere and passed though them Sionn could feel their strength and a sense of peace accompanied each, as well as bravery, pride and justice.

Aurora spoke that the bow was in her possession, it was like Sam had said, she was now the barer of the bow, and based on the ghostly figures as well as the warmth coming from the tomb instead of fear he was not doubting that Sam was correct in what he had said. As Torri spoke Sionn nodded softly and responded with a simple, "Aye."

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 ArawelaBanner

Arawela narrowed her eyes from the shadows and ground her teeth hissing under her breath, "the little snits...," She saw the leaves blowing over the ice and how the Native American one conjured up wind to keep the leaves from falling. She shrunk back deeper into the shadows and watched as the warm skinned one entered the sarcophagus returned with the blanket. She knew exactly what was inside the blanket and she felt the smile creep up her face again. Suddenly the leaves fell over the ice barrier and stuck like they had been glued. Surly from within it was almost completely dark and she knew that if a time to strike was coming, it was now.

She pressed herself into the very earth and pulled from the ground all around them the energy she would need. The leaves on the ice began to crinkle and turn brown as if it were autumn and suddenly the edges began to sizzle and his like they were being thrown into a fire. From within the bubble of ice the four companions would begin to see the ice melt and water running down the sides, but they leaves didn't extinguish from the water they seemed to only intensify in their heat. Thousands of leaves were burning their way through the foot thick ice and there was no indication that when the ice was gone the burning would stop when it hit their flesh.

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 Indian10Aurora looked at the water streaming down the sides of the ice cocoon and could feel the heat baring down on them all. She was sweating, her long dark hair becoming wet from perspiration and the ice melting. She looked over at Sionn, worry filling her dark, expressive eyes. She hadn't know that she could do what she'd done with the leaves and began to wonder what else her mother had kept from her. She could fell Beau and Eryn and knew that they were close by. Closing her eyes, she pictured Eryn in her mind and projected the image of the great raptor flying to them and flapping her wings to create a wind to cool the heating leaves.

Eryn's golden eyes widened then dialated as she picked up on what Aurora was doing and instructing her to do. She let out a cry and took off, flying towards the small group. She circled the ice cocoon, flapping her wings madly to cool the heated leaves. Beau had entered the cemetery as well and had his nose to the ground, trying to sniff out the person attacking his mistress and her friends. He picked up the scent and headed towards the female druid but her scent was obscured by the magick.

As Eryn flapped her wings wildly as she circled the melting ice cocoon, Aurora took the lead and tried to lead them to the entrance of the cemetery when ashes of one of the burning leaves fell through and landed on her arm, instantly burning her delicate skin to blisters. She gave a cry, but didn't stop trying to keep her focus on Eryn and helping them get out of there.

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 SionnBanner

Sionn felt the heat of the leaves as they burned and when Aurora got burned he had enough of this tripe. He pressed the hammer in his left hand to the ground and chanted words of magic, the lightning enchantment disappeared and he then thrust the hammer upwards and spoke again, a swirling sound rushed through the air around them and white streaks appeared around the hammer. He whirled it in his hand and smashed the rapidly melting ice barrier. A blast of wind exploded in all directions and sent burning leaves and ice hissing in all directions. For a moment they had a window of opportunity.

He had not noticed Eryn flapping her wings and the blast of air sent the eagle flying, he gave a look of apology as the bird's eyes focused angrily on him, he knew he would have to answer for that later. As Beau moved and sniffed the ground suddenly the wolf's ears pinned back and he began to snarl and snap towards the trees, Sionn immediately turned his head and spoke to Torri, "THE OAK!"

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 ArawelaBanner

Arawela was not stupid, she recognized immediately when her smoldering leaves were blasted away that she was not going to get her hands on the prize this time. She was pissed, to say the least, and was already thinking of where she could intercept the group along their route back to the bloody Dwarf's hotel. Then the wolf caught her scent and she snarled, "damn it."

Sionn turned his attention and an arrow hissed over her head as the ginger haired elf fired into the shadows. The arrow just missed her brow and the broad head shaved some hair off the top of her head as it hit the bark of the oak tree with a thunk. She snarled and thrust her hands forward, the handsome male elf was charging, even though she knew he couldn't see her. He was tenacious in his thirst to fight her, for that she gave him credit. Both hammers were swirling in his hands, one a blur of white wind, the other a blur of blue ice. The wolf was right on his heels and the female elf was getting another arrow with a strange looking tip locked up so she could fire again. Arawela had to think fast and act faster...

Thrusting her hands forward the roots of grasping came up out of the ground and snatched the wolf and Sionn by the feet and held them fast, Sionn fell forward and howled in pain as the rigid wood didn't give way as easily as his body. The pain in his ankle as he twisted and hit the ground with a thud caused Arawela to smile and the wolf snarled in pain as well. She emerged from the shadow and waved her hand again, the long, mossy tendrils that hung from the live oak came to life and grabbed the wolf around the front shoulders and Sionn around the wrists and began to pull them upwards, pulling them as if they were on a torturers rack. Her grey eyes focused on Torri who who had drawn her bow back and was dead bead on Arawela's chest, "Ahh, ah, ah little elf, think before you act..." The pulling became all the more tight and Beau and Sionn wailed in pain as their bones and ligaments tensed with the pressure of the pulling.

Arawela began to see her advantage again and she spoke, "If I die, so do they. The magic is such that it will no release on my death but tighten, they will both be torn in half if you slay me!"

She turned and looked at Aurora, "Now give me the bow!"

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 Indian10Aurora was beside herself with worry for the man she was coming to care deeply for and her best friend as they were being tortured by the roots of the tree. Every cry cut through her and when the druidess ordered her to bring her the bow she looked at the pain on Sionn's face and the cries coming from Beau and took a step forward, a crystal tear trailing down her bronzed cheek. Beau let out a growl, voicing his objection to her coming towards the druidess with the bow but she didn't stop until there were approximately fifteen feet between her and the druidess.

"Set them free and take me instead. I will come willingly", Aurora said, her dark eyes staring straight at the she druid. She felt the power of the animals spirits building inside of her and then heard Eryn whispering in her head, ~Do not be frightened, Aurora. The are a part of you now and can help you. Let them do what they do through you.~ Aurora's eyes became a golden brown and like the bear, her strength grew even though her small frame didn't change. She turned, handing the bow to Torri and turned back to the druidess, stepping forward again. "You want the bow....yet you will not get it without setting them free." She stepped up to Sionn and turned her calm gaze up to his green one, reaching up to take the root in her hand. With the strength of the bear she broke.it easily. She turned again, looking to the druidess. "If you wish to have the bow....you must have me first. You cannot have me if you continue to terrorize those that I care about." Her voice was strangely calm.....yet her eyes stayed the same golden brown. She waited to see what she would do. Of course, she had no intention of going with her.....but she had to get Sionn and Beau free and keep the bow safe. Plus...she knew that nothing would come of the bow if you didn't have the arrows to go with it.

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 TorriBanner

Torri blinked when Aurora handed her the bow. Slowly, carefully releasing he tension on the string of her own bow, she took the ancient artifact in her hand and gave it a loving gaze. It was perfect in its raw form. Simple in nature yet deadly accurate in the hands of a seasoned archer. What she wouldn’t give to possess such a thing….

Realizing what was happening, she quickly slipped the ancient bow over her shoulder so it was across her body and protected by her. As Aurora engaged the druid and released Sionn and Beau from their binds, Torri instantly pulled her own bow up and pulled the string taut once more. Only this time, she didn’t hesitate. As soon as she felt the whisker biscuit touch her lip, she released her bolt.

Believe it or not, her aim was not to kill the druid but distract her with the idea….Of course her aim was one that the bolt would come extremely close to doing just what Torri wanted her to think. She timed the release of her bolt perfect with the raptor that had recovered from its tumble and was now swooping in with talons curled and aimed at Arawela’s head and face. As Arawela was distracted with all of that, Torri rushed forward to help Sionn and Beau.

”Let’s go brother! We have to get Rora and the bow put of here…..now!”

She looked over at Aurora then.

”Come on, girlie! Let’s go!”

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 RhainBanner

He had an idea, but unfortunately, Rhain was not gifted with any extraordinary mental powers to communicate it. Subtly, he glanced behind himself. It was a straight path back. If he could send up a flash and blind their adversary, the group could make an escape by turning on their heels and just booking it out of the graveyard. They still had the bow and if he really pulled things off right, the woman in the bushes would be seeing spots and possibly disoriented for at least long enough for them to disappear into the shadows. His blue eyes glanced back and forth silently between the woman before them and Torri, who was closest. Rhain was mostly obscured by shadow and had been quiet the whole time, so he couldn't be sure if their enemy had taken much notice of him. Surely, she seemed experienced enough not to let him out of her sight or guard. Rhain had watched enough predators and been enough prey to know that just because the animal wasn't looking didn't mean it didn't notice.

With a slow, silent movement, Rhain slipped a little closer to Torri, still standing behind her. Aurora was stepping forward ready to give herself up. He had to act quickly.

"Can ya run?" he whispered almost imperceptively. It was so quiet he wasn't immediately sure he'd heard her, but then came the extremely subtle movement, the very slightest hint of a nod that answered his question. Rhain's lip curled. "Be ready to clue in the others."

With that, Rhain felt the warmth between to build in his hands. He held the energy at his center, pulling it up, building it until he was ready to release. In one very abrupt movement, Rhain shot his hands out in front of him and a blinding flash of white light shot up between the group and their enemy. It was like being at ground zero of an explosion. The whole world went white and practically rang as their bodies struggled to cope with the sudden loss of sense. In almost the same movement, Rhain whirled around, grabbing hold of Sionn by way of hopefully cuing him to join in. Still, he didn't want to go too far in case things didn't go according to plan. Blind though the woman may be, they would still have their backs to her.

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 SionnBanner
Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 ArawelaBanner

Arawela watched with caution as the bow was handed to the ginger headed female and she had an obvious hunger in her eyes. She turned and looked at Aurora and did not respond immediately, there was more to this than a simple prisoner exchange, she stayed perfectly still and watched cautiously as the dance began to unfold and suddenly the scene exploded into chaos. The arrow bolt was coming at her, an eagle, a flash of blinding light… she screamed with a blood curdling pitch and moved sideways as she shielded her eyes a millisecond too late as the spots appeared.

She heard the arrow whiz by and smack into the oak tree behind her, the eagle however managed to sink it’s talons into her flesh and she hissed in pain as she reached and smashed the bird dead in the face with her fist, knocking it off her. She could hear her prey beginning to move in the opposite direction and she did her best to get to her feet.

Suddenly the air all around them became so chilled and dense with moisture that any sense of direction was lost. Sionn immediately felt the magic and gathered everyone together, “This is just like when they came to the manor, it’s a Druidic mist, stay still, back to back everyone!”

The party created a circle as best they could, the misty fog was so thick they could only see a few feet in front of their faces. From the direction the oak tree had been they could hear another voice now, a male, deep and laced with anger, “STUPID GIRL!” then the obvious sound of a hand hitting flesh and the feminine scream of pain.

The moisture was clinging to everyone and though they could not see they all heard the voice again, it seemed to come from everywhere at once, “Though the mannerisms under which you have been approached were handled poorly I have come to claim the prize that was sought.”

Sionn felt behind him and touched Torri’s hand, he whispered so the group could hear, “It is the druid from the sea, the one that took the pages from Da’s books.”

“You are correct Sionn McGhee, but to claim the pages belonged to the Lore Keeper is inaccurate. The lore of the ancients is not property to be owned, all of our kind have access to them, it is shameful that your father feels that as the Lore Keeper he is be default also the lore owner. Knowledge is required to be shared between all factions, since the beginning of time, I merely took what should have been common domain in the first place.”

“You took it so you could learn the secrets and deploy the weapon!”

The voice in the fog laughed and responded, “Young Elf, you and your sister have much to learn before you are truly ready to claim the inheritance that awaits you.”

The fog that had been landing and clinging to everyone suddenly began to warm and static filled the air, “I will give you this one chance, right here, right now. Give me the bow and the bearer and you may all leave, if you do not I will finish my lightening spell and every single one of you will be fried to a crisp and I will simply take it. I give you my word, and a Poe’s word is always good, if Aurora and the bow step into the fog and come to me the rest of you will not be harmed, but I also give you my word that if she does not then you will all be dead, including her.”

PostSubject: Re: Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven   Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 Icon_minitimeTue Oct 16, 2012 9:59 pm

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 Indian10Aurora cried out as Eryn was struck down, the blow knocking the raptor senseless. She wanted to go to her, but knew to do so was to play into the enemy's hand so she stayed put, next to Sionn. She left the bow with Torri, knowing that the other woman had more experience than she did in doing multiple things at once during a battle and she trusted her with the prized artifact. She knew that Torri would let nothing happen to her ancestor's bow.

Once the mist started, she found herself still next to Sionn, her back to Rhainn's and Torri's. She wanted so badly to latch onto Sionn's hand for comfort but she knew that Sionn would need both hands and hammers to do battle. She looked around, trying to figure out what to do. She was still confused and frightened by what she'd already done, having no idea what was happening to her. She didn't know about the words her mother had said to Sionn the day before, if she did she might feel a little better. She couldn't stop the tear from trailing down her cheek as she thought about Eryn and whether or not she was okay. Then she heard the male voice and the sound of a hand hitting flesh and she winced at the sound. When the mist cleared somewhat and the static began, she again heard the druid's voice on turning her and the bow over to him in order for the others to live. She actually seriously considered going to him with the bow to save the others, especially Sionn when she felt his hand on her wrist, stopping her. She looked up into his beautiful green eyes and nodded to him, letting him know that she understood.

Beau was coming up behind the druid and the girl, his great paws not making a sound on the Earth. He was a creature of the Earth, a reincarnation and a tool for the Goddess. As such, the Goddess saw to it that nature was aiding him. It was as if his paws weren't touching the ground as he moved towards them. ~Use the spirit of the hawk, Aurora. Don't be afraid of her. She will know what to do~, Beau projected to her. Aurora thought for a moment then felt something stirring within her and recognized it as the hawk spirit. She closed her eyes, letting the spirit do as she needed, trusting her. The hawk spirit left Aurora to soar above them, letting Aurora see through her. Aurora saw the cemetery, the druids, the gravestones. She could see all of them, standing in the circle. She saw how Sionn stood next to her, his body positioned so that he was in a protective stance. Aurora and the hawk spirit both smiled at that, her heart warming. Then she realized that she was seeing things from above....as if she were flying above them with the spirit of the hawk. ~Amazing~, she thought to herself.

Then she was soaring again, searching, but Aurora didn't know what she was searching for, but the spirit did. She found what she was searching for in a pair of peregrine falcons and then in a pair of Mississippi kites. Speaking to them through the language of the Goddess, she told them what she needed and then flew back to Aurora, becoming a part of her once again.

Aurora gasped at the entry of the spirit, wondering if she would get to used to that eventually. Raising her head, she looked to Sionn, her bright amber eyes returning to their normal deep brown. She cringed as sparks hit her delicate skin then looked up at the sky as she could feel them coming. Beau was close, she knew that from seeing what the spirit had seen and knew that the druids were in for a surprise.

The pairs of kites and falcons were suddenly there, swooping down on them, their talons tearing and ripping. They were fast, attacking and leaving then attacking again when Beau attacked, leaping for the girl as the kites and falcons bore down on the druid.

“SO BE IT ON YOUR HEADS!”
Erebus’ voice boomed from the mist just seconds after the sounds of birds screeching and attacking broke onto the scene. Sionn was still trying to put the pieces together and come to a strategy, turning quickly he saw Aurora staring into the mists with a trance like expression and he grit his teeth… Attacking the possibly most powerful Druid to ever walk Earth was not something he had even considered, but now they would have to deal with it.

The static feeling in the air quickly subsided as Erebus withdrew his magic to defend himself. As the sounds of birds swirling filled the air above them and the four winged creatures circled in to attack again Erebus refocused the magic he was projecting outwardly towards himself and hissed as the electric charge filled his body. Using the mists clinging to his clothing as a conduit he simply allowed the four birds to come in again and with an intense blue flash of light the group would hear the squawk of four creatures followed by the distinct smell of burnt flesh just a millisecond before the air went quiet.

Sionn turned to Torri and screamed, “NOW!!!”

Torri loosed her arrow and it disappeared into the mists, followed by a “thunk” as it hit the oak tree. A short barreled laugh echoed across the area and the distinct sound of rusty hinges closing and gates slamming shut rang out, “I wanted to do this the easy way, if you had only given up the girl then it would not have come to this!”

Sionn spun to move and something caught his ankle and sent him face first to the ground. He turned and Arawela was withdrawing into the mists, her face full of blood lust. She had a smile on her face as she disappeared and Sionn charged his hammer with the moisture in the air and slammed it into the root that held his leg. It shattered under the intense cold and he came back to his feet, heading for Aurora. He stopped in front of her and looked around just in time to be nose to nose with Erebus who spoke calmly, “You are just as foolish as your father.”

Torri could only watch in horror as Erebus’ hand came up and a blast of electric energy exploded from his finger which was pointed directly at Sionn’s chest and sent him flying through the air. He landed with a sloppy thud onto the wet ground and lay motionless, steam coming off his body from the streaks of burnt clothing where the lightning had burst over him.

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 Indian10Aurora screamed as Sionn was blown back from the lighting bolt coming from the druid. She'd had no idea who this druid was, nor had she known just how powerful he was. But she knew now just how badly she'd messed up. She saw the look on Torri's face and knew that there would be hell to pay from his sister, a hell she would gladly pay if it would ensure that Sionn was okay. She turned to the druid, seeing and smelling the burned birds and knew then that she was also to blame for their deaths. Beau had also ceased his attack upon seeing what Erebus Poe had done, rushing to the elf to stand guard over him.

"Stop...please just stop. It is me you want along with the bow. Let them go and you and I can talk. See to it that Sionn is unharmed by what you just did to him, let them leave the cemetery and you and I will discuss what is to come of me and the bow." Tears trailed down her cheeks, her eyes never leaving Sionn's prone form laying motionless on the wet ground. "Beau....retrieve Eryn and go with them if the druid allows them to leave with Sionn unharmed."

Beau snarled at Aurora, making it clear what he truly wanted to do but never left Sionn's side. "Torri, take the bow with you until Mr. Poe and I have discussed matters." Her dark brown eyes were shining with her tears and guilt as she looked to the woman seeing the anger in those green eyes so much like Sionn's. Aurora didn't even give Torri a small smile, knowing that one would not be welcome. Instead, she walked over to Sionn and knelt next to him, her hand lovingly stroking his pale cheek. She rose, turning to Erebus, "Well...what do you say?"

The Druid turned to look as Aurora screamed. Her agony only seemed to entice him and he spoke, "You are right, it is only you and the bow that I want, and if I hadn't needed to defend myself your little pets and your...," he cleared his throat sarcastically, "...man friend wouldn't be dead."

Arawela laughed softly at Erabus' mentioning death. She felt Torri's eyes bore down on her and she seemed to only become more delighted at the pain they were all feeling. Erebus looked at Aurora and spoke, his voice was cold and sinister, "What do I say? As if all this had anything to do with me. From the start I offered your friends safety if you came quietly, but you did not come quietly, did you."

Arawela looked from Erebus to Aurora and licked her lips with a vicious hunger in her eyes. Erebus continued, "Easy niece, before you go tearing on a rampage or do something else stupid let's consider the circumstances."

He looked back at Aurora and spoke with laced angst in his voice, "Being that I am in a good mood this morning, I will be willing to speak with you, however my terms have already been stated and any further negotiations will require you to bring more to the table than I have already requested, that is the price for not meeting my stakes from the outset. Just like in poker, I have laid my bet on the table, if you wish to counter it will require... more."

He looked at her and it was obvious by the look on his face that he wasn't being sarcastic in any way. She was truly going to have to convince him that she was willing to go with him.

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 Indian10At the mention of Sionn being dead and the insinuation of it being her fault, the weight that was already on her heart only intensified as it bore down on her. She looked to Torri, holding her hand out for the bow which Torri had to hand over as Aurora was the barer. She took the bow, took a last look at Sionn one of her tears falling onto his cheek and turned to face Erebus. She knew that in order for the bow to become active, it not only had to have the sacred arrows, but she also had to perform the sacred ritual, sealing her bond with it. It was this knowledge that had her doing what she did next.

"The bow and I will come with you, but only if you do as I asked before." She took a step towards him, then another and another. She turned to cast a look at Sionn one last time and to look into Beau's eyes as well. ~If Sionn lives and is his true self, come for me Beau. Find me and bring me home. The bow is not active without the arrows and ceremony and the arrows are in the elves' hands now.~ She looked up at Torri, "Take care of Sionn and tell him that I am so sorry to have caused this with my stupidity. I should have waited as I am not as experienced in these things as the two of you are." Turning back to Erebus, she looked at him with somber, dark brown eyes. "So....what shall it be?"

Erebus watched as Aurora complied and approached him, looking her over his cold, calculating eyes wistfully summed her up and he spoke, "I assure you that I am not planning on harming you, for now that is all you need know."

He turned to look at Arawela and he spoke, "Come niece, you have caused enough trouble for one day."

He gestured for Aurora to walk ahead of him and turned to look at Torri coldly one last time before disappearing into the mists with Aurora. Arawela turned and looked at Sionns' prone, lifeless figure on the ground and she spoke with a sneer, "It's a pity, he was quite good looking, and quite a tiger in the sack from what I hear... I was rather looking forward to..."

"ARAWELA! NOW!"

She glanced into the mists and then back to Torri with a sneer before stepping into the mists. Torri would feel the immediate pull of magic and then it was gone. The mists began clearing immediately and the mid-morning sun began to break through and cover the graveyard with warmth.

--

As Erebus stepped through the portal, Arawela hot on his heels, Aurora found herself standing in a rather comfortable looking building. It was clear that it was the Poe Mansion that Sionn had been telling her about, but exactly where it was remained to be seen. Arawela stepped through the portal and it collapsed. She looked at Aurora and spoke, "Well little pretty one, it seems that you have something of ours that..."

Erebus grabbed her by the throat and shoved her against the wall, "You STUPID girl! Do you realize how much you have compromised this morning because of your foolishness? I will not allow 347 years of planning to go to waste because of your ambitions or your fever for power."

Arawela's eyes were bulging from her sockets and her face was turning slightly blue as Erebus held her fast to the marble wall. It was clear that this was not a show for Aurora's benefit, she was clearly being choked for real.

As she grasped at Erebus' hands and gurgled she was about to pass out when Erebus released and she dropped to the floor, puking and coughing to catch any amount of precious air she could force into her lungs. Finally she stood and hissed, "HOW DARE YOU!"

Erebus' backhand landed straight across her cheek and as she folded up like a dropped dish rag he was kneeling on top of her and hissing in her ear, "There is more at stake than you and your dream of leading House of Raven, do you understand me!? Your father leads this house but it does NOT automatically put you in line for succession! Do not think I won't kill you if you undermine anything that has been laid out before us!"

He stood and Arawela looked up at him as she touched her hand gently to her rapidly swelling cheek. Giving a quick glance to Aurora she came to her feet and begrudgingly spoke, "As you say uncle."

She was practically vomiting the words out but Erebus didn't care so long as she said them. Erebus turned and looked at Aurora and his cold voice became more soothing, "I apologize that you had to see that Lady Aurora, but what my niece did to you and your ... friends is completely unacceptable."

He turned and spoke, "Kelly, Heidi, see to Lady Aurora's needs, whatever she needs make sure it is provided for her, she is our guest, not our prisoner."

Two maids came from seemingly out of no where, young girls around 17 or 18, dressed in plain grey clothing and clearly servants of the house. They bowed obediently to Erebus and he turned to look at Aurora, "I will see you at dinner time, 5 o'clock sharp in the main dining hall, one of the girls will acquaint you with the house and show you to your quarters."

He turned and left, disappearing down a hallway that was off to the side. Arawela watched him leave and turned to look at Aurora, the look on her face suggesting that this was not over, not by a long shot.

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 Indian10Aurora's eyes were round with fear as she watched Erebus choke the girl, only to have him backhand her viciously. As he turned to her, she took a step back, listening to his words. That she was a guest and not a prisoner was a joke and she knew it, but for now she would have to bide her time as she ignored Arawela. She worried about Sionn, wondering if he was truly dead and another tear slid down her cheek as she followed Kelly and Heidi to what was to be her elaborate cell. And it was elaborate, she had to give Erebus that.

The room was large, a four poster bed sitting up against the far wall. Thick drapes were pulled back at the posts and a canopy was above it. The comforter was a deep burgandy made of what looked to be crushed velvet. The dresser and chest of drawers matched the bed and were beautiful. But a gilded cage was still a cage she thought to herself as she held the bow close to her chest.

She thanked Kelly and Heidi then went to the bed to sit down, feeling the softness of the mattress beneath her, finally giving in to her tears and crying softly.

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 ErebusBanner

The day went by swiftly as Erebus worked on the things he originally laid for himself to do. As the clock chimed he went to the dining hall and found the staff waiting as they normally did. He sat and Arawela appeared only seconds behind him, taking her seat at the table and looking at the clock.

The chime hit it's fifth toll and Aurora appeared, still holding the bow, looking like a frightened fawn. Erebus stood and spoke graciously, "AHH, our guest arrives... please."

He gestured to the seat beside him and Kelly pulled it out while Heidi grabbed a cloth napkin, unfolded it and waited. As Aurora sat she placed the napkin in her lap and and Kelly helped her scoot her chair in. Erebus sat and the servants immediately began bringing large platters of delicious food. Erebus turned to look at Aurora and he spoke, "As we have not yet gotten to know one another I had the cooks make a full compliment of items, please feel free to have what you like."

He watched as she looked at him with hesitation and he spoke, "I assure you that nothing has been tampered with, we do not wish you dead Lady Aurora, nor will anyone be snatching your bow from you..."

He turned and gave Arawela a stern look before turning back to her, "Though some at this table are unaware of it, the bow, as you and I know, can not be wielded by anyone other than it's barer, which we both know is you yes?"

Aurora would see that he already knew the answer, obviously the fact she was even sitting here was enough to confirm that, however he paused and didn't say a word until she answered.

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 Indian10"Yes...I am the bearer of the bow", she said nervously as she had not yet released the bow, therefore making it impossible for her to eat. Finally, she settled it somewhat awkwardly on the floor, having it leaning on her legs. She looked at the various foods being brought to the table, "Thank you, Mr. Poe...for your thoughtfulness", she said regarding the food. She still did not touch anything nor did she drink, not trusting anything or anyone. While he did wish her dead, she knew enough to know that it was possible for her drink and some of the food to be drugged. She was not going to take the chance. "Mr. Poe...please, I need to know. Is Sionn.....is Sionn truly dead?" Just the thought made her ill.....her stomach turning at what his answer might be. She looked to Arawela and saw the sneer, thinking on how pretty the girl could be if she wasn't filled with so much hate.

Erebus looked at her as she spoke and noted how she watched the food but did not take anything. Finally before he answered he stuck his fork in some of the turnips covered in honey and brown sugar she had been looking at longingly and he stuck his fork in them, placing one in his mouth and chewing so she could see there was no poison. In fact he spoke after he swallowed, "I want to reiterate that we mean you no harm, I gave my word that you would not be harmed if you came, and you came. I may be judged by my magic or my mannerisms, but I am not a liar, when I give my word it is good. Of course it is your choice, to eat, or to starve to death and be buried with your bow until the next bearer comes along to claim it... either way is your choice," He leaned forward and looked at her, "But I assure you that your death will not come by any hand in this house."

Arawela played with her food and looked almost disappointed at his last statement. He leaned back again and spoke, "As for the Elf, no, he is not dead. I do not wish the wrath of the Stormborn to lay itself down upon this house. I could not allow him to threaten me, or jeopardize your life for that matter. As you might have picked up on my niece has a flair for the dramatic, and if I hadn't stepped in I am sure she would have killed as many of you as possible."

"And I could have too," Arawela looked up at Aurora. Erebus looked at her, "WISHT Niece, killing should only be done when there is purpose and meaning to it, as it always has been and always has to be."

ERebus turned and looked at Aurora, "I can assure you, you will see Sionn McGhee again, alive and after he recovers... well."

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 Indian10Aurora breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing that Sionn would live and recover, sending up a silent prayer of thanks to her Goddess. She thought about the food then, having seen Erebus eat of the sweet turnips that her mouth watered for and politely asked for them to be passed to her. She took a spoonful and ate one, her eyes closing as she tasted the honey and brown sugar sauce. She finished what she put onto her plate and then looked to her glass of wine. "I apologize, Mr. Poe, but I do not drink alcoholic beverages. Would it be possible if I were brought some water?"

She'd again blatantly ignored Arawela's outburst about being able to kill them, sensing that engaging the girl would be futile. She was too filled with hate and anger to be rational and she had a strong suspicion that Erebus was one of few that could keep the girl in line. For now.

Of course Lady Aurora, whatever you wish!

He looked at Kelly who immediately went to the serving table and grabbed a pitcher or water. Heidi had placed a glass in front of her and Kelly filled it before withdrawing. Erebus gestured to the water, "If you wish me to taste it first so you can see it is not poisoned I would be happy to do so."

As Aurora shook her head and drank he smiled and leaned back in his chair. As she finished he spoke again, "SO, the burning question I am sure you are pondering is why exactly we have brought you here. It is unfortunate that through heavy handed means it had to occur, however I want you to know that it is so you can learn, and see that the House of Raven is not the evil monsters that we are heralded to be. Of course you will need to make that decision in your own time, but I merely wanted to request that a fair opportunity to give you our side of the story be granted."

He cut some of his meat and took a bite before continuing, "I know, it seems odd that we would force our hand, and I know the events of this morning most likely have already set a taint in your mind regarding who and what we are, but as I said if we can start on neutral ground so that we might learn from one another... that is all I am asking. I would like if you would to stay the night, and tomorrow after we have both had some sleep and a little time to take in all that has happened in the last 24 hours we can begin our discussion over breakfast. I don't know about you but I much prefer to have conversations over food... there is something intimate about sharing that which sustains the body with that which sustains the mind."

He picked up his wine and held it up a moment before speaking, "So Lady Aurora, do we have an accord?"

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 Indian10She smiled her thanks to Heidi and Kelly before sipping the water, listening to Erebus. "I don't see where I have a choice, Mr. Poe. I have you my word that I would come in return for the safe release of my friends and here I am. But, I am willing to listen to you and your side of the story tomorrow. I would like your word that the bow will not be touched by anyone but me while I stay here." As she said the words, her gaze turned to Arawela, her dark brown eyes becoming hard. "And, if I choose to leave after our discussion, will I be allowed to? With the bow?" She waited with baited breath on what his answer would be.

Erebus immediately nodded his head and spoke, "Your terms are more than agreeable Lady Aurora, I assure you that nobody will touch the bow while you are in our home."

He turned and looked at Arawela who flicked some of her food onto her plate and stood despondently, "I am not very hungry Uncle, I think I will retire for the evening."

Without a word he nodded and watched her leave, turning back to Aurora, "As for your other request..."

He stood and walked across the room, straightening a very charming portrait of Edgar Allen that hung over the massive fore place, "As we discussed in the cemetery after you maliciously attacked me, the stakes would be higher now that the original proposal wasn't met. I gave, you did not take, then you gave, but what you offered required me to take defensive action and then I offered again, however I did state that the terms would require more be placed on the table, and you agreed to those terms, did you not?"

He turned and looked at her and could see in her eyes that she understood and was following him completely, "Now, with that said I mean it when you say you are not a prisoner, however I can't simply allow you to come and go at your leisure, this is a matter of trust more than a matter of wanting or even needing you to remain. As much as you clearly don't trust me by your requests of me, so too I have not yet found myself in a place where I can trust you...," He looked at her sharply, his eyes tracing her delicate features, "So before I answer, can I trust you?"

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 Indian10"Trust must be earned, Mr. Poe and as it was your niece who attacked us, therefore resulting in the attack on you.....I would have to say that as of right now, we are at impasse. You accused me of attacking you maliciously, yet that would not have happened if YOUR niece had not attacked us first, therefore putting us on an extreme defensive. So, I do not see how I would have to offer more when it is very probable that things would have gone different had your niece not attacked in the first place." She grew thoughtful for a moment, "Perhaps we should begin anew." She rose from her seat, keeping the bow with her and approached him albeit cautiously. Holding out her hand, she gave him a shy smile, "I am Aurora Jameson. I am pleased to meet you." As innocent as Aurora was....especially to the world in general, she did have somewhat of a backbone and had the uncanny ability to know when to use it.

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 ErebusBanner

As she spoke her words he smiled and responded, "Let's say that my niece is hasty in her decisions and aggressive in her approach, and leave it at that. The events of the cemetery were unfortunate at best, I did not want our first meeting to begin and end as such, however as it is that is the way it unfolded."

He took a small step forward and noted the way she still held the bow without any amount of allowing it to leave her embrace. He took her hand and shook it, and then offered her a seat again at the table. As she sat he also took a seat and looked across the table at her, "Aurora Jameson, descendant of the great Hiawatha, descendent of the great Genghis Khan... quite a lineage you draw in your wake."

He could see the look on her face, he said her name not as a matter of having just learned it but in a way that suggested he already knew who she was, "We have been monitoring you for quite some time Aurora, you have been narrowed down as the primary candidate to become the new bearer of the bow. I am not sure what you have been told about us but I assure you it was most likely done through bias and motivations of different perspectives. You see, the House of Raven is a Druidic order of the old, part of the nine factions, the same nine that you yourself are part of, though your house is obviously not part of ours."

He leaned back and took a sip of the scotch in his glass and continued, "The bearer of that bow must have very specific qualifications, and as you are probably aware it is incapable of being used without two key factors, the arrows and the will to use it by the bearer. It is why I keep telling you that no one in this house, or any other for that matter will attempt to take it from you, the fact of the matter is you are the only person on the planet who is capable of wielding it. Most artifacts are able to be used by anyone capable and strong enough to use them, but this one is among the more unique in that there are multiple factors that need to align before it can be deployed properly."

He sipped his scotch again and could see the look of curiosity on her face as to how he knew all this. With a sly smile he reached into his black wool coat and removed a small leather bound book with the bow in her hand embossed on the cover, "That is, for all practical purposes the users manual if you will for your ancestral artifact."

He watched as her eyes almost hungered to take the book and look at it, he reached and nudged it over to her and spoke softly, "Go ahead Aurora, feel free to look at it."

He leaned back and watched as she went to grab the book, should she decide to take it what she would find would be hundreds of pages in multiple languages, many of which she couldn't read, with descriptions and complicated instructions regarding the combinations of the bow and how it could be used. Some of the images were pleasant, others were horrible, but there was a sense that this was not a weapon of specific purpose but rather one that was very pluralistic and bound to the will of it's wielder.

Ch 3 - There are Secrets in the House of Raven - Page 2 Indian10Aurora's eyes widened at the sight of the book, her confusion at how Erebus knew everything about her forgotten. She reached for the book then pulled her hand back, a whisper sounding in her head. ~No, Bearer of the Bow......while it is true to form it also holds that which can cloud the mind.~ She recognized the voice as that of the badger spirit and looked up at Erebus. "Thank you, Mr. Poe, but I have the spirits to guide me in the uses of the bow. I will rely on them instead of words on pages." She sat back then, looking at Erebus with her dark eyes, "Why do you want these artifacts? What use are they to you?" She then thought again, "My father came from a line of druids....is that how you were able to keep tabs on me? Through my father?"
