| Oh, yeah... Basha's due to return as well. Enough time has elapsed, and the old leathery warrior will make his grand entrance way down the road... | |

| No worries... figured that... I've been a little discombobulated of late as well. So I made a map of Baloc, just to keep our bearings. It's not very detailed, but just like with Fort Glory I'll place significant land marks on it just so it's easy to remember where everything is. I agree that maps can become too encompassing, but in the case of keeping track of where things are in a fixed setting they are kind of useful. | |

| I also placed the map in the LEXICON.
It will be nice to return to a 'Fort Glory' Setting. I believe the respite offered by Meirathal was necessary for the story and the information and mentors the characters have gained will be very beneficial but nothing beats the dangers of the 'big city'.
I have made Baloc much larger than Fort Glory, so much so that should we develop detailed settings in specific districts I may have to make separate maps. Just quick ones for reference.
Oh the designations of the district are only predominantly lower, middle or upper. The West Side has it's middle class occupants as well.

| Let me know if the Coven's present of place for Colleen to raise the kids and work is too much. If perhaps you guys were thinking of having a go of it in the big city on your own then I'll just change the post. It just seemed a fitting thing for them to do since they would naturally feel guilty that they have send them away. | |

| So I was picturing Baloc, as a Grand, fully functional city, far larger than Fort Glory and the last bastion of the civilized world. This of course does detract from the significance of Fort Glory, and makes one wonder why the King, would reside in the 'Wild West', rather than Baloc. Questions which I believe could be answered simply by the fact that Dorian, was preoccupied with his secret excavation beneath the castle and perhaps he also decided to remain there for political reasons. We could imagine that Baloc was the third largest city prior to the Dragon attacks, and they very proximity of it which was a deterrent to its growth saved it, as the attacks for some reason did not spread so far West. In fact, long ago it was written that no Dragons had ventured West, which even then sparked a plausible reason in my mind. The Weir that plagues the world is for some reason, nervous about journeying into the Western territories, just as they are leery about venturing into Tiann. Why? There are other dormant Weirs out there, and while they remain in slumber, the malicious Dragons can rule. Perhaps even the Queen of the Dragons herself remains buried out there deep beneath the ground awaiting someone to awaken her. So, we have the opportunity in Baloc, to have a virtual limitless Victorian landscape. A city, probably ten times the size of Fort Glory, surrounded by a great and ever expanding wall. Even now a new section of the city... a walled area being tagged onto the outer perimeter is being built. Opportunities abound, but the place is also a breeding ground for thieves and murderers. Among them, however, the Mermadon have dwelled for years now, wearing their disguises, passing themselves for humans in order to spy and gain confidence. Within the walls of Baloc we can also probably expect that people are not as worried about the Dragons as those to the east of them. No one would probably ever consider the reason why, choosing to arrogantly believe that the Dragons fear their defenses, when in truth the city of Baloc resides over an ancient and powerful Weir that continues to slumber. The humans are inconsequential, it is a matter of territory. | |

| One question do you have your easts and wests confussed. It has always been my understanding in map making that the east is to the right on a map and west is to the left. Top is always north and bottom is always south. Therefore Fort Glory would have been to the northwest of Baloc. Or am I looney? | |

| I guess Fort Glory is really more North of Baloc, but still to the East. In my mind Fort Glory represents the first attack in the North Western part of the world, and so the people of Baloc would definitely be uneasy about that. | |

| The accomodations for Colleen and crew are perfect, Tiph. And I agree with your depiction of Baloc. I think it would make sense it would be a larger, more advanced city than Fort Glory. | |

| I agree also that the depiction is excellant and that it would be a more "civilized" and established city. Besides it will be more condusive to Sleve and Scounger not to mention the Shoddy End Kids. OOOOOOO Collene is going to have her hands full. | |

| I know I can hardly wait for the old times to begin anew.
There are so many places and things to do... I hardly know where to begin. First though, the characters have to get there... ready for a little paddle-wheel boat ride? I think a little riverboat excursion is just what we need to get his show on the road.
Kallend would no doubt make sure that Colleen and Elija are on the East Side, but where exactly is up to you.

| A river boat ride will be good, they can land at the docks on the west side, that will allow Splevey and Scroungers minians to see Elija, Colleen and the Shoddy End Gang and report back to Splevey and Scounger. | |

| A river boat ride would be an excellent way for them to get to Baloc. As for the location of the smithy and residence, I would say it should be near the Town Square. Maybe on the North East corner that way it's close enough to the hustle and bustle for business yet not in the middle of things so Colleen and the kids could have SOME privacy.
And yes....I'm sure Colleen is going to have her hands VERY full with the Shoddy End gang being back among a busy city once more.
Those sticky fingers of their's will no doubt find plenty of things that catch their eyes.

| I studied the previous posts and from what I could tell it should have been mid-morning when Elija discovered the map. I found that most River Boats were essentially floating Bed and Breakfasts, so an overnight journey will be fitting.... and beware the deck at night, who knows who'll be creeping about. | |

| Was just thinking the same thing. "A RIVERBOAT ADVENTURE?" I am sure there is bound to be a riverboat gangler onboard with ties to Scrounger of Splevey. Or shall we link the riverboat with Baloc? | |

| Well the Riverboat will take approximately 10 or 12 hours to reach Baloc. It's an overnight trip, and there may be a few other stops along the way, where other people will board. The boat will travel through the night and then there should be no more stops until day break. I have a little bit of an adventure planned for ride, but don't let that stop you from throwing in other elements of danger. i would imaging though that if anyone unscrupulous men from Elija's past are involved, they may choose not to act until they reach Baloc, but then again one might imagine that they could also plan to steal Elija or other kids off of the boat while on route as well. I guess anything could happen. | |

| I was thinking it as more oif a recognition thing. So that they could report back to Scounger and Splevey that Elija and the Shodding End Gang were in Baloc. Just to link everything together. But who knows what may occur.

| Oh for sure. That sounds cool. The boat really isn't that large though, so it would be very interesting to see if any of kids would recognize the spies. Could have a bit of cat and mouse in play. | |

Evil Mermadon...
So, please feel free to role play the situation, however, you see fit. Colleen is not exactly without the reflexes of one who has seen battle, although it is a 'sucker punch' to be sure.
